The Residuum
Starting out my third year our instructor asked us to think about a visitor center for the Fargo area. Looking at the history of The Fargo area the Red River was created by a glacier many years ago and the sediment of Lake Agassiz made our rich land that Fargo lives on today. With on the sediment of this lake bed we have a very difficult time building very tall buildings. In this visitor center I wanted to create an iconic building that shows where the Red River came from and how we have adapted to the unusual environment that we build in. Through the picture above you will see some of the representations that I have included. The first is the large unique shaped windows that wrap around the exterior of my building. As you move around the building the windows start to become lower and lower and diminish. This represents the receding of the glacier and it melting away. The front entrance represents the unique history of our building facades downtown. And the large three pillars represent the stilts of that our city must be built upon if we are to build over five stories tall.
